Teeth cleaning and whitening are two completely different treatments. Teeth cleaning does not whiten the teeth though it does remove any material that does not belong to the teeth like food and plaque. Teeth whitening does change the color of the teeth from yellow tones to white tones. A good analogy for this is this: a white t-shirt can be cleaned in a washing machine and be cleaned of all stains and the same t-shirt can be whitened even more from washing liquid.
Teeth Cleaning
Plaque, tartar, cigarette and tea stains and over contaminates are removed during teeth cleaning. In teeth whitening, the colour of the teeth does not change however the dirt and plaque that provides additional discolouring is removed. Teeth that are not cleaned have a high amount of bacteria and micro organisms living on them which give way to and cause gum diseases.
Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is the process in which the teeth are white and using different colour changing medicines. Teeth that have been stained from smoking, drinking coffee, or ageing can be whitened effectively.
Teeth whitening can be done by yourselves or a dentist at one of our clinics. In both ways the results and length of effect are the same. The expected duration of the affects of whitening are around two years and it is more costly compared to teeth cleaning.
Teeth whitening is performed in three different ways.
All of these processes provide the same results and length of affect. The most effective procedure is chosen depending on the continuation of treatment at home, the budget given for treatment, and the length of the process.
- At home by yourselves (20 days)
By taking a mould of your teeth we can provide a special whitening spoon on the same day. We also provide a special syringe to apply the right medication. For 20 days you will apply the medication and use the spoon for 2 to 8 hours.
- At the clinic by our dentist (3 sessions)
Compare to the treatment at home will use a much more strong and effective medication. We also apply a special guard for your gums in order for the medication to not make contact with them. Each session lasts approximately one hour and are done on a weekly basis.
3. In one session at the dentist and the rest of the treatment at home (10 days)
The boys who want to achieve teeth whitening at home and the quick way, you can visit our clinic for an hour-long whitening session and from there on use a special spoon with eight syringes to take home. You can continue your treatment at home for 10 days.
For those who smoke and whitening
For those who smoke and do not have to keep up appearances for special occasions or photographs we do not recommend whitening. Because even with very well whitened teeth, any kind of smoking will discolour them in a short period of time.
Will teeth whitening damage my teeth?
During your teeth whitening process any cold or hot foods or drinks will cause light sensitivity. This is a temporary effect. Throughout the treatment nothing will cause permanent damage or long-lasting negative effects. I will dentist to make strict checks and controls throughout the process in order to effectively and safely whiten your teeth.
How long does whitening last?
Whitening last approximately two years. After two years you will have to re-continue treatment in order to retain whitening.
