Relex Smile

What is RELEX SMILE surgery?

Relax smile is a type of play this eye surgery. ReLEX SMILE stands for refractive lenticule extraction, small incision lenticule extraction. This correct deformities like your shortsightedness and astigmatism. There are other methods which can remedy these issues but SALUSS and most I specialists recommend this procedure because of its excellent advantages. Antalya, Turkey is home to some of the worlds top eye clinics and hospitals.

How is it performed?

A laser is used to make an incision around the cornea, where a refractive lenticule is created. This leaves the upper layers of corneal tissue mostly untouched. It takes around 30 seconds to create a refractive lenticule, which is actually a thin lens shaped corneal tissue, within your cornea in the layers. A small 4 mm incision is also made on the intact cornea surface. The lenticule is then removed through the same incision with a minimal disruption to your corneal biomechanics. The lenticule is removed through that small incision and the cornea remains  undisrupted and stable. By doing this the shape of your cornea is changed which helps achieve the desired refractive correction. Now the way light bends into the eye has changed which allows you to see clearly again.

Who is eligible for treatment?

Your SALUSS surgeon will make a detailed analysis of your eligibility for surgery. You must be at least 22 years old or above and have no more than -0.5 D of astigmatism. Along with that your eyeglass prescription should be stable for at least 12 months.

How safe is it?

This is one of the safest procedures known in the world of eye surgery. The idea behind ReLEX SMILE  is to make such procedures much safer and more reliable as well as stable in the long term. Flap related complications which occur through Lasik surgeries are non-existent. Your cornea is biomechanically more stable after ReLEX SMILE as the incision made on your cornea is up to 80% smaller than the cut on the flap made during Lasix surgery. This also minimises any chance of your corneal becoming thin and avoids dry eyes in the future.

What are the benefits?

The surgery is minimally invasive, the incision made through this procedure is 80% smaller than the one done with lasik. This also enables your cornea to have a more stable biochemical structure. There is less of an induction of the optical aberrations which means your vision at night is better. 9 out of 10 patients have a visual acuity of 20/20 or better after the surgery. There are no flaps, unlike the conventional Lasik procedure, as the procedure does not require any flap folding. The upper corneal structure is preserved because it is untouched and the stability of the cornea is largely unaffected.
